Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
It is his maiden championship after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.
The win also signifies he has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.
The player's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.
However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to create a decider.
He saved four early-game break points in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
