Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
